NAME: Hamza Hussain CANDIDATE/STUDENT NO: TEAM NAME: ndiGO SEMINAR GROUP NO: F3
Background For the module the group had decided to consider taking an ethical approach. Taking an ethical approach would involve thinking of an ethical idea and implementing ethical concepts throughout the decisions we make. However we required evidence of ethical aspects implemented within the mobile industry. Action(s) Taken From my research I had came across a successful example in the mobile phone industry, which was called the Fairphone. As a group we had discussed the ethical aspects of the Fairphone and agreed to base our idea accordingly. We had found various ethical ideas, which we implemented into our mobile phone idea. These included the use of renewable sources, fair wages and a sustainable long lasting mobile phone. Outcome By finding a successful ethical example we were able to use a well-established organisation as a guideline for our ethical idea. We used the strengths of the Fairphone for our idea and developed upon the weaknesses, which we identified with the Fairphone. We had successfully created an ethical idea that was detailed within our business plan; we had received a First class, 73%. As well as this after our presentation positive feedback was given in connection to the ethical approach we had taken. Learning I have learned more about the ethical approaches that can be taken in the mobile industry. As well as this I have learnt how various ethical ideas can be pursued to align with a CSR strategy of an organisation. Watts & Holme (1999) define Corporate Social Responsibility as a duty of every corporate body to protect the interest of the society at large. Therefore ethical ideas support this definition by protecting interests of the society. Further Development In the future I will look into ethical concepts and ideas that have been used by organisations other than the mobile industry. In addition to this I will look into how CSR is implemented within the business strategies of different organisations in different industries.
