NAME: Hamza Hussain CANDIDATE/STUDENT NO: TEAM NAME: ndiGO SEMINAR GROUP NO: F3
Background One aspect of the business game involved a simulation. The simulation allowed each team to implement their strategy formulated within the business plan. Each round would present different market conditions and the team was required to make decisions accordingly. However in Round 2 making decisions according to our plan caused our profits to drop significantly. Our profits had turned into a huge loss, thus having the lowest loss of the tutorial group. Action(s) Taken After Round 2 it was vital for the team to improve profitability. This problem had caused task conflict with regards to how the profitability could be improved. Each member had a different perspective causing conflict between which decisions are best. Therefore I had proposed my solution to our simulation problem based upon the workshop I had attended. As discussed in an earlier entry I had gained theoretical knowledge regarding changing strategy. Our failure in the simulation was caused due to our decisions made in line with our plan thus I had advised the team to change strategy. Our original strategy was not to open plants in Asia and I had recommended changing our strategy by opening plants in Asia. My decision of opening plants in Asia was also supported by Asia being the region with highest expected demand. Outcome The team had agreed with my decision to change our strategy. Consequently, we had opened plants in Asia. This decision was very successful for the team, as it had improved our profitability. Our profit had improved from Round 2 at loss of -653,059 to 179,648 by the end of Round 3. The increase in profits reflected the positive impact made by changing strategy. Learning Task conflict is usually associated with effective decisions, and relationship conflict is associated with poor decisions, (Simons & Peterson, 2000 ). Based on Simons and Petersons definition of task conflict I was able to learn how task conflict leads to the better decisions being made.

Further Development For the future I will plan to research into the different types of conflict including task and relationship conflict. I will look into how conflict can be managed to improve the teams performance and what can be done to prevent. References Simons, T & Peterson, R. (2000).
