Assignment for Data Science intern

Hi,

So we are carrying out this Data Science exercise to solve EXIM (Export / Import) problems
and create a utility for Exporters to get the best price & service listings from
freight-forwarders or simply a Kayak for Cargo.

Your task is to analyze a data set provided below from a popular freight forwarding site,
which contains information on origin and destination ports, container details, shipper names,
freight rates, and estimated time of arrival (ETA). Your goal is to clean the data, fill missing
values and create a machine learning model that can predict freight rates based on the
distance and weight of the container. Work on ship data and air data seperatly.

Additionally, you will need to explore ways to scrape data from websites and consider if there
are any alternative methods of data retrieval aside from web scraping.

Please keep in mind that while coding is important, the weightage of your approach and
thought process is more important than just the coding part. We are interested in seeing how
you think through and approach the problem, as well as your ability to communicate your
thought process and results effectively.

We expect you to complete this task within two business days and provide us with your
findings as soon as possible. The sooner you reply, the better your chances are of being
selected.

Good luck and happy analyzing!

For additional info:

A freight forwarder, or forwarding agent, is a person or a company who, for a fee, organizes
shipments for the shipper (an individual/party that arranges an item for shipment) by liaising
with carriers (an individual/party that transports goods).

A. Every origin & destination ( to // from) will be a trade route that is serviced by a freight -
forwarder.
B. There will be multiple freight forwarders mostly local who service exporters
Exports and freight forwarding are closely related because freight forwarders are an
essential part of the export process. Freight forwarders are responsible for coordinating the
transportation of goods from the exporter to the destination, and they handle all aspects of
the shipping process, including documentation, customs clearance, insurance, and the
physical transportation of the goods.

For exporters, freight forwarders provide a vital service by handling the logistics of shipping
their products. Freight forwarders have a network of carriers and agents that they work with
to ensure that the shipping process is seamless. They are also experts in customs
regulations and can ensure that all necessary documentation is in order to avoid any delays
or issues at the border.

Freight forwarders can also provide valuable advice to exporters on issues such as
packaging, labeling, and documentation requirements for different countries. This can help
exporters to ensure that their products are shipped in compliance with local regulations and
to minimize the risk of any issues arising during transit.

Overall, exports and freight forwarding are closely linked, with freight forwarders playing a
critical role in ensuring that goods are transported safely and efficiently across borders.
