Production systems

Production: Transformation of inputs (Men, Machines, Materials, Money, Information & Energy) to desirable outputs in the form of goods and services. Scope: organizing for prodn. distribution of the product the customer (Every Thing)

Production analysis
Analysis of production for quantity should be aimed at determining the following The production machinery/equipments and other utilities Shop floor layout (Machines/tools/work stations/materials Material handling (the method and equipment) The Flow process grid (OPC) Control plan (Production schedule)

Production systems
Job order production system
The production facilities are capable of producing many different jobs in small quantities.

Batch Production system

Where the production capacity is more than the market demand for the product

Mass production system

Where the market demand is more than the production capacity

Continuous (Flow Shop) Prdn. System

Apparel Production systems

Whole garment production system
Complete whole garment Departmental whole garment

Section production system

Conventional bundle system Clump System Progressive bundle production system

Unit Production System Modular Manufacturing System

Apparel Production systems

Complete whole Garment production:
Complete whole garment system: one operator makes the entire garment from cutting to the final operation like sewing, fusing, pressing etc.,.

Departmental whole garment system:

one operator does all the work necessary to be done with equipment/machine allocated to a department. E.g. one for cutting, another for sewing etc.,.

Apparel Production systems

Conventional bundle system:
Sewing m/c are arranged in lines Work moves from Stores to first machine and then back to stores Work in progress is in the form of bundles Distributor is responsible for Prdn. tracing

Clump System: Similar to Conventional bundle system, Except that the work is collected in the form of clump from a work table. Collect-work-return Progressive Bundling system
The sewing operations are laid out in sequence Operator receives a bundle, works-reties-pass to next operator

Unit Production System
Computer controlled production line. It is a type of line layout that uses an overhead transport system to move individual units from workstation to workstation. All the parts of a single garment are moved together along an overhead conveyor. Operations are completed without removing the parts from the carrier

Modular manufacturing System:

It is a contained, manageable work unit that includes an empowered work team, equipment, and work to be executed. The team works on one/a few garments at a time instead of a bundle of garments. A Modular Production System operates as a Pull System, with demand for work coming from the next operator in line to process the garment. operators work on more than one machine/work station, becoming familiar with multiple steps in producing the garment
