Biology/Pre-health Majors should focus on: Interdisciplinary background Research and design in labs Ability to work in teams/ partners Analytical skills Problem-solving skills Ability to be self-sufficient Relevant Coursework only if relevant and specific to position Be major specific: If MCB, focus on the molecular level; if IB, focus on the bigger picture Be specific, state your intent whether it be graduate school or a job position Focus on a few, but significant experiences Experience may include: research, internships, volunteering, organization involvement, work experience Be able to convert resume into a CV if required by graduate schools Emphasize the all rounder student Communication skills are a must Emphasize Education and honors Research Oriented should focus on: Self-motivated Ability to think long-term Ability to commit to a project for specified time Emphasis on the mathematical, sciences, engineering background Mention all skills applicable to research like PCR amplification Show the ability to operate various machines/instruments Be able to convert resume into a CV if required Emphasis on publications and papers collaborated on Showcase your research skills Self-sufficiency is key Emphasize Education and honors Alternative Medical Careers should focus on: Interdisciplinary background which includes liberal arts and sciences Depending on the career, showcase: business skills, computer skills, technical skills which include programming skills and basic Microsoft skills Emphasize on organization and interpersonal skills Showcase leaderships skills with communication Be concise and consistent Be academic oriented, but also show case extra curricular involvement Focus on internship/volunteer experiences Objective statement, but dont be too specific; keep your options open
