Title and its Connotation


1. Night: relates to darkness, both in the physical and metaphorical sense of the word. All-encompassing, so there is no escape from it, emphasizes feeling of hopelessness. 2. Fog: distorts their vision as they arent aware of their impending death. It also denotes the heavy and oppressive nature of the nazis.

Incongruities of Narrator and Musical Score.


1. Narrator- Monotonous and unemotional, so as not to sway the audience with regards to their emotions as well as to imitate the feelings of indifference of the Nazis to an entire race of people. ironies of the commentary capture and focus the viewers attention, ensuring that the most horrible images (those shots of corpses, for example, that the censors objected to) are seen with clear eyes, and that therefore their human meaning cannot be avoided- Film critic James Leahy. Musical Score- light-hearted flutes play against a background of unsettling images reflecting the discordant nature of the narrators tone and ensuring maximum impact on the audience as they are encouraged to think about what they are watching. It comments on the indifference and ignorance of the public during the holocaust.
