AVID Newsletter March 2014 Lakenheath Middle School

Parents, Wow! Time flies when you are having fun and we have been having tons of fun in our AVID classes! It is hard to believe Spring Break is next week. We have had a busy 3rd quarter at LMS (as our newsletter will showcase) and many of our students are beginning to get spring fever. We still have a long way to go until June, so we must continue to encourage our students to put forth the required time and effort it takes to be an outstanding AVID student. We want to see all of our AVID students continue to reach their full potential by displaying their personal best each and every day. Our AVID students have shown so much growth and potential this year and we know they are going to shine during the 4th quarter! They are a terrific group of kids, and it is a pleasure to teach them. We also want to thank all of our parents for your continued support. We could not have such a successful AVID program at LMS without you! Thank you! Have a relaxing and wonderful Spring Break!

In the AVID Classroom

Positive Affirmation
Our classes participated in a Fun Friday activity which allowed each student to discover their value and importance in our AVID family. Students were given a name tag to wear on their backs and each of their peers anonymously wrote a positive word or phrase that describes them. This activity reminded everyone of how special they are to our program and to each other!

Student Weebly
We have been working on incorporating more technology into our classroom by allowing students to create their own student Weebly. This will provide each student with their own space to showcase all of their best school work and achievements. Students will continue working on their Weelbys for the remainder of the school year. Ask your student to share with you what they have created so far!

Avid Superstars
The March superstars were asked, What is your best AVID Talent or Skill? How do you think this skill will help you do well in college?

Block One Trinity R.

My best AVID skill is organization. I think this will help me in college, because I will know where all of my assignments are located and I will be more motivated to complete them.

Block Two Erin B. In AVID my best skill is Cornell Notes. They will allow me to be successful in college by helping me study effectively, locate main ideas, and memorize information for tests & quizzes.

Block Three Emmy B. My AMAZING Cornell Note taking skills are my BEST AVID talent. These notes provide me with an efficient study system, which I can use to pass my exams.

Block Four Patrick N. Organization is very important to me, because in college you need to be organized to succeed. If you are not organized then you will not have your homework and you will get bad grades.

Block Five Maddy M.

I am great at taking Cornell Notes. They will help me to do well in college by helping me study and it will make note taking much easier.

Block Seven Harlee C.

I think I am great at keeping organized. I think this will motivate me to turn homework in on time and know when my assignments are due.
