FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Feb. 21, 2013 CITY COUNCIL ELECTIONS FAST APPROACHING: YOUR GUIDE THROUGH THE 2013 SEASON! MORGANTOWN, W.Va. Its election time, folks! Time to decorate sidewalks with
campaign signs and hand out fliers to anyone with an open hand. Seven council seats are up for re-election and the Council will select among themselves who will serve as mayor and vice-mayor for the upcoming year. Whats next on this years agenda? Drawing for positions on the ballot will be conducted at City Hall Council Chambers on March 5 at 9 a.m. Eligible candidates must have already turned in a petition of 75 signatures in the ward which they reside and a Certificate of Announcement by February 11. If you are going to be out of town or you are unable to get to polls in person, applications for absentee ballots are available at the City Clerks Office. The deadline to apply for absentee voting is April 25. For all other voters, the deadline to register to vote is April 9. Head down to the Monongalia County Clerks Office or the Division of Motor Vehicles if you need an application! -MORE-

ELECTION/Page 2 Voting, and encouraging your neighbors to vote, gives YOU the say in how your community grows and is able to support that growth, said Public Communications Manager Susan Sullivan. Government is by the people, and for the people, and there's no other way to make a change in YOUR neighborhood than participating in the most local of government elections - the municipal elections. Early voting will run from April 16 April 27. Election day is Tuesday, April 30! Voting procedures have changed: the City of Morgantown will not use mail-in ballots.
