The essence of politics at the local level was once again demonstrated by the just-
finished Barangay and SK elections in 2023. I watched the election intently as a
concerned citizen, and the results have left me feeling confused. First off, it's great to see that a large number of people are casting ballots in these elections. The fact that people take an active role in forming their local communities is encouraging. The determination expressed by aspirants and voters alike shows a growing acknowledgment of the significance of municipal administration. However, these elections also revealed some negative traits. The rate of vote- buying as well as other improper voting is one such worry. Seeing how money can sway election results and threaten the ideals of equality and fairness is troubling. In conclusion, even though these elections had some positive characteristics, such as higher voter turnout, it is critical to deal with the negative problems that clouded the results. Prioritizing stronger penalties against vote-buying and encouraging moral campaigning can help guarantee fair voting at the local level. At that point, we would be able to establish a healthy government that empowers people and promotes inclusive development in our barangays.
