STATEMENT FROM COUNCILWOMAN SARAH COMPO PIERCE

It is unfortunate my opponent would suggest City residents are so uneducated that they
would not realize who the current mayor is.

Signs worded like mine are common practice during elections and do not violate
Election Law. In fact, what my opponent fails to mention is that other individuals running
for City office—including Mr. Spaziani, whom she supports—have signs worded in the
same way. The same goes for candidates at the county level, as well as those in
previous races at the state and federal levels.

My opponent has stated my campaign signs demonstrate a “lack of transparency.”

Signs stating the name of a candidate and the office they are running for are
transparent. However, what is not transparent is signing a non-disclosure agreement
and keeping the public in the dark about details of a nearly $4 million deal to purchase
the Watertown Golf Club, just as my opponent did. What’s also not transparent is voting
to prohibit the public from letting their voices be heard, just as my opponent did on
December 12, 2022.

While my opponent resorts to negative campaigning and mudslinging, I will remain

focused on the issues I believe voters are most concerned about, including fiscal
responsibility, investing in our infrastructure, addressing issues with our water system
and overall, making Watertown a better place for individuals and families to live and
work. In the weeks ahead, I will continue to demonstrate, in a positive manner, why I am
the right choice for Watertown’s next Mayor.
