Compressed Gas Cylinders

Hazards
Inert gas can rapidly displace oxygen in confined spaces, causing loss of consciousness or death to anyone in those areas. Flammable gas can ignite and burn rapidly. A compressed gas cylinder can become a missile if the valve is damaged. Compressed gas can cause a pipe or vessel to explode. When directed at a person, compressed gas or oxygen can embed particles in eyes and skin. Never introduce compressed gas into a piping system or vessel without specific instructions, applicable written permits, and relief valves of proper size. Never use compressed gas or oxygen for cleaning anything, including skin or clothing. Oxygen cylinders will not be stored within 20 feet (6.1 meters) of combustible gas cylinders or near any other substance where an accelerated fire could result, unless protected by a wall at least 5 feet (1.5 meters) high having a fireresistance rating of at least one hour. Never use cylinders as rollers, supports or any purpose other than to contain the contents as received. Never store any gas cylinders in any enclosed space - including your tool containers. Never drag or slid cylinders. Never drop cylinders while handling. Never permit oil, grease, or other lubricants to contact gas cylinders, valves, regulators, hoses, or fittings. Move and secure cylinders in an upright position.

Precautions
Never take compressed gas cylinders into vessels or confined spaces. Always remove torches and hoses from confined spaces when not in use. Continuously and adequately, ventilate confined spaces where inert welding gases are used. Ensure that dry-chemical powder (DCP) fire extinguishers are readily available for fire emergencies. No smoking rules must be enforced near places where compressed flammable gas is used and stored. Protect cylinders and hoses from sparks and slag.

Pre-op Testing Areas

Areas in which Pre-op testing is being carried out will be barricaded as outlined below Orange snow netting and hard barricade Danger - Pre-op Testing in Progress sign (in English, Hindi and Arabic) on all sides of barricaded area. Danger sign with name and contact details of responsible supervisor at entrance of barricaded area.

All employees must have permission from the Pre-op Supervisor to enter the barricaded area.
