The middle childhood fact sheet will discuss the different milestones; physically, cognitively, and language, that

takes place during the development of children in the middle childhood stage. Also it discusses atypical development and the signs to look for along with strategies that families can use to help with the learning and development process.

Typical physical developmental milestones


Displays mature, whole-body throwing and catching patter; increases throwing speed. Rides bicycle with training wheels

Typical language developmental milestones


Phonemic mastery typically completed, but refinements in speech production continue (KENT, R.(2005). Attention becomes increasingly selective adaptable, and planful.(Berk, L. E. (2013).

Typical cognitive developmental milestones


Children have the critical insight that another person could hold a belief that is false, that is different from their own, and that will result in a particular action. 6- to 10-year-olds who begin to make correct judgments of actions based on the more subtle distinctions of mixed, hidden, and social (pride, shame, and guilt) emotions (CALLAGHAN, T.(2005).

A sign that may signal atypical development


They tend not interact or form friendships with peers.

A strategy that families can use to influence their childs learning and development.
Encourage their children to read more which in turn strengths their cognitive skills with language and over knowledge based.

Family participation in developmentally stimulating experiences such as eating dinner together and engaging in conversation of how everyones day went.

A social factor that influences the early childhood stage Acceptance and what their friends and peers think of them become more important than it was for the parents at first.

A culture factor in early childhood stage Children are anxious about guns, death, and violence
