RINA Chapter 1 Common Structural Rules for Bulk Carriers Structural requirements These Rules apply to ships classed

with the Society and contracted for construction on or after 1 April 2006. Note: The "contracted for construction" means the date on which the contract to uild the ship is si!ned etween the prospecti"e owner and the ship uilder. #or further details re!ardin! the date of "contracted for construction"$ refer to %A&S 'rocedural Re(uirement )'R* No.2+. These Rules apply to the hull structures of sin!le side s,in and dou le side s,in ul, carriers with unrestricted worldwide na"i!ation$ ha"in! len!th - of +0 m or a o"e. .ith ul, carrier is intended sea !oin! self/propelled ships which are constructed !enerally with sin!le dec,$ dou le ottom$ hopper side tan,s and topside tan,s and with sin!le or dou le side s,in construction in car!o len!th area and intended primarily to carry dry car!oes in ul,$ e0cludin! ore and com ination carriers. 1y rid ul, carriers$ where at least one car!o hold is constructed with hopper tan, and topside tan,$ are co"ered y the present Rules. The structural stren!th of mem ers in holds constructed without hopper tan, and2or topside tan, is to comply with the stren!th criteria defined in the Rules. The Rule re(uirements apply to welded hull structures made of steel ha"in! characteristics complyin! with re(uirements in &h 5$ Sec 1. The re(uirements apply also to welded steel ships in which parts of the hull$ such as superstructures or small hatch co"ers$ are uilt in material other than steel$ complyin! with re(uirements in &h 5$ Sec 1. Ships whose hull materials are different than those !i"en in ;1.1.<= and ships with no"el features or unusual hull desi!n are to e indi"idually considered y the Society$ on the asis of the principles and criteria adopted in the present Rules.
