Vathal Kulambu

Ingredients
Sundaikai Vathal(Turkey Berry dried) - 1 tbsp
Red Onions(small) - 1 cup
Garlic (optional) - 10 cloves
Tamarind juice - 1 cup (150 ml)
Coconut Scrapings - 1 cup
Black Pepper - 1 tsp
Red Chilly - 3
Corainder seeds - I tbsp (or) Corainder powder - 6 tsp
Salt to taste
Gingerly Oil (or) sunflower oil
For seasoning :
Curry Leaves – 3 twigs
Mustard - 1tsp
Fenugreek seeds - ½ tsp

Process
For Masala :
Fry Corainder seeds(using Corainder Powder instead of seeds the grinding
takes less time) , 1 tsp of red onions, red chillies, black pepper, coconut
scrapings, curry leaves(2 twigs).
Grind it into a fine paste.
For Kulambu :
Pour 1 tbsp of gingerly oil in kadai.
Fry Sundaikai Vathal in that and keep aside.
Put the seasoning ingredients in the oil . After spluttering of mustard put red
onions, garlic.
Fry well. Now add tamarind juice and ground masala.
Add salt. When the gravy (kulambu) becomes thick add fried Sundaikai
vathal to it.
Eat Vathal Kulambu with Boiled Rice and Kuttu Curry.
