Sport: Volleyball Date: 4/20/14 S: Pt.

called her ATC and told her that she punched a wall while intoxicated at a party. She said she thought she broke her hand. She said that the P! was a 7/10 on the pain scale. O: The medial side of her hand was extremely swollen and appeared to be broken. She was extremely point tender along the 5th metacarpal. She was given a tunnel splint and wrap for the night and an appointment to get an x-ray early Monday morning. By the next morning, the swelling had decreased significantly and the P! had dec. to a 4/10. Her appointment for x-ray was moved back to later in the morning. A: After review, there was no fracture visible on the radiology report, and she was cleared to practice with buddy taping. She bruised the bone, but no fracture is suspected at this time. P: Continue to monitor symptoms, treat with indirect ultrasound, taping and ice. The athlete is able to tolerate and play without limitations so she will continue to do so.
