Unit Plan: Reflection Page

1. Where did you get the ideas and materials for this unit plan? Include website names, URLs, book titles and authors. I created these lessons from scratch and incorporated the following resources: The Houghton Mifflin Social Studies textbook Google Images Geography from A to Z a Picture Glossary, by Jack Knowlton Papa and the Pioneer Quilt, by Jean Van Leeuwan Integrating Language Arts and Social Studies, by Leah M. Melber and Alyce Hunter Video Clip: http://schoolmediainteractive.com/view/object/clip/734409999E426CB17FC10D3B702B34

2. What were the easiest and most challenging parts of writing this unit plan? When writing this unit plan the easier part was brainstorming some of the ideas once I looked at the standards. The more challenging part was finding resources that would fit into my vision of the lesson I wanted to create. I was disappointed in the lack of technology for first grade students. I wanted to find a way for students to use a website to work with maps. The websites I found were geared towards older students. 3. What suggestions do you have for yourself for the next time you write unit plans? As I was searching for resources and ideas to write my geography unit, I came across information that would not work now, but could be used for future social studies lesson plans. Next time I need to create a folder for these resources to quickly copy and paste them to review at a later time. The researching process can be time consuming and creating an idea folder on my computer will save me time in the future.
