See through Water (art exhibit): The quality of light affects the nature of surface reflection. The colors from the surrounding landscape contribute to the overall appearance by means of the reflective surface. The transparency of the water allows for the inclusion of information about what is below the surface. The speed of the water movement affects how light is cast onto the stream bottom. The fact of so many levels of information enables me to break down a photograph into pieces and then play with the pieces until a new whole is created. BBBS NEWS
ALL ABOUT BBBS IN THE COMMUNITY EXCLUSIVE NEWS TODAY

SPOT LIGHT
Big Brother Forrest, who has been matched for only four months, has already seized upon opportunities to make a difference in the life of his Little Brother. Rather than shying away from potentially awkward conversation or the possibility of ruffling his Littles feathers, when Forrest learned that his Little was having some serious academic struggles that may prevent him from the sports involvement hes always dreamed of, he took on the issue without reserve.

Brother Forrest

The two sat over dinner talking about where Forrest is today and how he got there before identifying the Littles problems areas. At first the Little indicated trouble with focus and concepts; areas identified by his mom and the school as the culprits. Forrest found it hard to believe that this was really what has holding his Little Brother back, so he asked his Little to forget what people have been telling him the problem is and to give his own honest opinion. The Little said that he hasnt been trying hard enough in class. Forrest says that this was the moment of progress; his Little identified the problem as coming from himself, and then the two were able to begin mapping out a plan for achievement.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Socrates, one of the greatest philosophers of all time, taught his students by asking thought-provoking questions instead of simply lecturing them. By doing this, he allowed his students to contemplate and discover their own beliefs and viewpoints. From Socrates we learn that asking questions can stimulate deeper thinking and greater understanding. It can also lead to the student asking more questions to gain a better understanding of the topic at hand.

FUN QUESTIONS:
At what point in history do you think Americans stopped having British accents? If you had 3 wishes that had to be spent on you and you could not wish for more wishes, what would you wish for? What do you think the best gift in the world would be? If you were an animal, what animal would you be? If you were to change your name, what would you change your name to? Why? If you could have anything in the world what would it be?

[Edition 1, Volume 1] 11

CHOOSE YOUR POISON:

-Who would win a fight, Batman or Ironman? -Would you rather have a yacht or an airplane? -Would you rather live in a mansion or treehouse? -If you have to eat a cockroach or a grasshopper, which would you choose?

2) What is the difference between living and existing? (One can interpret living as feeling their surroundings and having experiences. Whereas existing can be the mere fact that we are here at all)

QUOTES TO THINK ABOUT:

The greatest prison that people live in is the fear of what other people think (A lot of
people care about what others think about them, therefore they choose to do things based on what others think and say.)

Are these questions too easy for your Little? Are you looking for a question that takes more thought? Or are you looking for more involved questions to ask? You could try out one of these questions, or introduce your Little to one of these quotes and ask them what it means to them. What they say might surprise you! You can use the things inside the parenthesis to help guide the conversation if your Little is having trouble.

Climb mountains not so the world can see you, but so you can see the world (Dont do things
because you feel like others will acknowledge you. Get out of your comfort zone. You might find something new you like.)

NOT A SIMPLE QUESTION:

1) What is a leader? What defines a leader? Are you born a natural leader? Can you be a leader without followers? (There are
no such things as natural born leaders. Leadership is a skill that anyone can develop over time, like learning to play basketball or learning a new language. It takes time to get it down)

You learn more from failure than from success. Dont let it stop you. Failure builds character (Failures teach you what
things you did right, and more importantly, what things you did wrong. This benefits you because next time you try you know what not to do, where if you fail, you didnt learn a valuable lesson that you otherwise would have learned.)

[Edition 1, Volume 1] 12

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT:

Be a better you! Do you want to make an improvement about yourself or change something in a drastic way? Try making that change or improvement with this simple tip in mind. Instead of trying to improve yourself in one day, try spreading it out over a wider period of time. For example, do you want to learn French? Try learning 5 words a day. By the end of the year, youll know about 1,825 words. Do you want to try a new hairstyle? Instead of going straight to it, try getting 2-3 different haircuts that gradually moves into the style you want! Its less stressful and people will be less likely to notice the change. Do you want to stretch the boundaries of your comfort zone and become more adventurous? Instead of going skydiving or swimming in the ocean with sharks, try doing something new each week that youve never done before. Youll learn more about yourself and have more stories to tell people. After awhile, if you really want to go swimming with sharks, let me say it again, sharks. Go right ahead, you adventurous soul.

Mentoring Tip

Remember the old saying, Rome wasnt built in a day. It takes time to improve yourself, so dont try to do it all at once. Work on one or two qualities at a time, and there will be no limit to what you can accomplish.
