Mystery parcel investigation 1

Resource Sheet Pearson Education Ltd 2014

Jennie has been sent a mystery parcel but she cannot collect it until she has guessed its weight. Jennie has the following information: The parcel weighs between 0kg and 1kg. (It is neither 0kg nor 1kg, it is somewhere in between.) The weight is written as a 3-place decimal number. The number of grams has at least one 5 in it. Jennie has to work out how many possible weights there are for the parcel, if all this information is true. Once she has done this, she then has to nd out how many possible weights there are for the parcel if the following fact is also true: The weight has exactly two 5s in it. Once she has done this, she is told that: the grams part of the weight has two 5s and a zero. the zero is not in the tenths place. Now Jennie knows the weight and she can collect her parcel!
