On April 30th, Mary Ann Heckman, who lives at The Homestead, will celebrate her 90th birthday. Happy birthday, Mary! Flowers on the altar this weekend are sponsored by Jeff & Cathy Erwin in loving memory of their infant son; and by Richard & MaryAnn Jensen in thanks for Gods blessings. CONFIRMATION SUNDAY is May 4. Eight of our St. Johns Youth will be confirmed at the 11 AM worship service next Sunday. Looking ahead, the 11 AM worship will change to summer hours beginning Memorial Day Weekend (May 24) when it moves to 10:15 AM. If you will be visiting someone this week for home communion, hospital visits or just to say hi, there are several Easter lilies still available at the church that would love a new home.

Listening Posts Pastor David hopes to have conversations with any St John's members who would like some time to share whatever you may choose. These conversations are called Listening Posts, and allow for people to share their feelings in the confidential setting of the pastors office. Other than a few questions that Pastor David will ask everyone who comes to visit, this time is one where your hopes, concerns, dreams and insights might be shared with him in a free fashion. These times slots are for thirty minutes each, and are suggested for one person or family group at a time. These conversations will help Pastor David to learn about St Johns in a less than formal manner: hopefully these conversations will be a help to members who desire to speak with Pastor David through a confidential time of conversation. Pastor will have a sheet with times at the office. Please contact the office to make a Listening Post appointment!

LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF PERSONAL CARE KITS are the April project. When natural disaster strikes or political conflict flares, families often have little chance to gather their belongings before fleeing the danger. They arrive in a refugee camp or other place of safety scared, vulnerable and dirty from the travel. The simple items included in a Personal Care Kit allow them to wash away the dirt with the fresh scent of soap and the softness of a towel as reminders of someones care and concern for them. Items to include in the kit are: One bath-size towel, dark color recommended Two bath-size bars of soap in original packaging One adult-size toothbrush in original packaging One sturdy comb with packaging removed One metal nail clippers with packaging removed All items should be new. Wrap all items together in the towel and tie securely with ribbons or yard. Do not enclose the kit or any of its contents in plastic bags. Look for the aluminum washtub in the west hall for collection of the kits. WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Many walls block peace for Israel and Palestine: walls of violence, of occupation; of political corruption and lack of will; of ignorance, mistrust, and fear of the "other." Lutherans in the Holy Land carry out their ministries in the midst of such walls as economic deprivation, internal dissension, and Israeli occupation. In 2005 the ELCA adopted the "Strategy for Engagement in Israel and Palestine". All in the ELCA are encouraged to express solidarity with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land (ELCJHL) and concern for all the people of the Holy Land through education, worship, prayer, giving and advocacy. Jolene Ziebell and Jacquie Samway will take a trip sponsored by the Nebraska Synod to the Holy Land, May 2nd through May 15th. The purpose of this trip is to build relationships with Christian brothers and sisters, Israeli Jews, and Palestinian Muslims. They will learn about the situation in Israel and Palestine and the ministries of the ELCJHL from others who have visited. Please pray for them and others in the ELCA and around the world that peace with justice will flourish in the Holy Land, As part of their trip, they will bring a Love Offering to the Lutheran churches and Augusta Victoria Hospital. This is an offering which is divided among the six Lutheran churches and the hospital. Bishop Brian Maas will present the Love Gift to the people in leadership. If you wish to contribute to this gift, please contact Jolene or Jacquie for additional information. You may also leave your gift with the church office. Christ's Blessings, Jolene Ziebell Jacquie Samway
