Throughout the duration of my English 1102 class I have extensively used my writing skills not only during every

class period but also with homework. The five elements: inquiry, revision, collaboration, intertextuality, and rhetorical awareness have aided in my success as a student. The inquiry aspect of our work incorporates asking questions and finding answers. The dialogical journals allow people to summarize, give opinions, and get feedback. It allowed for me to express my ideas even if they were wrong and allowed others to broaden my view on the article or topic up for discussion. I found that upon reading one article I was quite confused at the meaning and having another person write their opinion for me to see was helpful in understanding the material. The daily notebook entries were more a collection of a particular groups thoughts and ideas. Every group I had seemed to work together great and the ideas presented expanded our impact on the topic at hand. Our inquiry project played a huge role with our development. Narrowing down a question seemed challenging at first but once you could design a broad idea the rest was easy. My proposal stayed right on target for the different genres I was going to cover. The citations in my paper allowed for the audience to see the creditable sources and go into reading this paper with an open mind. The final product was a master piece, not really but I would like to think so. I believed that I synthesized my sources well and developed a sold answer to my question. I did not start out with a story since my first paragraph captured the essence of many persons battle with smoking. Finally, the group Prezi was a challenge, my group members were as follows: Josh, Matt, Joseph and Kelsie. It was very difficult to work together sometimes due to the different work habits and techniques executed. Eventually we all came together as a group and finished our project.

The revision process was a huge contributing factor to the advancement of our learning. The three drafts of our multimodal project took a while to complete. I ended up changing the whole topic because the examples in my essay corresponded the word Preconception. My Prezi for the final creation of this assignment had many examples with pictures to show my true mind set while writing this essay. Revising the different genres we formed did not take long, with feedback from Lucy, Jasmine, Demi and Janis it really helped me to critique some of my work. They pointed out the mistakes I did not even see, such as the work cited page was not formatted and that if I had a good idea to stick with it. I have included all revisions on my portfolio to show the development that has happened over the semester. I have also revised my portfolio a lot due to the changes in organization that I acquired. The collaboration conducted was very useful in learning my classmates personalities. The interviews helped me see into the minds and lives of people I had never met before. The teamwork represented within our project groups also showed not only me but everyone other persons way of thinking. Knowing their background information also assisted me to understand their reasoning for a specific opinion. Writing workshops on Moodle played a role in my expansion in different topics I could employ in my own writing. Discussing topics in class was difficult at times because I honestly did not know what to say, the more we did the easier it became. Working together on the discussion topic was very beneficial because we would already have ideas on what to say. The midterm reviews displayed the errors I over looked as well as the writings I did well on. Allowing my peers to give ideas and information on my various types of assignments exemplified the partnership we all held together to help one another succeed. The intertextuality aspect of this class was like nothing I had ever encounter before. I personally have never made a paper into something so visual. Usually papers are long, drawn out

and boring but with using Prezi sites and Power Points the essays came to life at the touch of your screen. My social genre is embedded on my portfolio with a blog post. I asked certain questions pertaining to my topic and I even got responses. The visual part of these assignments really aided in the understanding of the subject. Also, the dialogical journal responses showed intertextuality by letting me voice my opinion about someones ideas and question their reasoning. Through connecting with the different texts we read I was able to recognize the true meaning the author presented. The rhetorical awareness include the three types of genres used in the extended inquiry project. They were social, professional, and academic. These different genres allowed for me to use all my resources to develop a firm plan and a great paper. The social genre allowed me to view others opinions on their own life stories. The professional genre helped me to incorporate my major into this English project. I am a criminal justice major so I thought that writing a law proposal would only be fitting. My portfolio was designed to help my audience navigate their way through in an easy yet thought provoking manner. All the 3rd and 4th columns in the dialogic journals expressed the audience, purpose, and my ideas. Seminars helped to show who we were talking about and why, the discussions lead down different paths at times but none the less were very illuminating.
