It Appears Small, but Impacts Big

Alhaam Tahir, Zayd Najjar, Cassius Miller, Jonathon Villarruel, and Raeaan El-Asha are all students attending UTD and this year they participated in Enactus. After Enactus set forth a challenge of Lets Can Hunger the students wanted to take action. Cassius Miller formed a team of five and decided that they would impact the community by feeding downtown at the Bridge Homeless Shelter on February 8, 2014.

Preparation for Feeding

Everyone knows that college students are always on a tight budget, but this did not stop UTD Enactus students from serving the homeless food. After the group donated funds towards purchasing food, students Raeann and Alhaam made a trip to Wal-Mart to shop for food. The total sack lunches provided were around 40; each lunch sack contained: a sandwich, fruit snacks, bottled water, and a granola bar.

Downtown Feeding
After preparation of the food the students car pooled downtown to the bridge homeless shelter. When the students arrived they immediately saw swarms of people in need. Cassius encouraged the girls not to be afraid, he said, Dont be scared to interact with the homeless, they are just like us. Because of previous bias most of the time people may have a misconception of how the homeless respond, thats why Enactus sought to meet the Above: need directly with food.
