PRE TEST INFORMAL INFORMATION What do you know about Edgar Allan Poe? How many of his works have you read? If you have read some, do you like his work? Edgar Allan Poe was an 18th century writer whose works were often dark and thrilling. I have read several of Poes works including The Tell Tale Heart, The Pit and the Pendulum, and others. I love Poes work! He has a very unique ability to make his stories very sinister and dark. Its like looking into the brain of a madman!

POST TEST - EXIT CARD: Now that you have read the full text of The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe, briefly summarize the content and explain whether or not you feel the story was told in an effective way (try and use as many descriptive literary elements as possible).

The Cask of Amontillado is a story told by Montresor who seeks revenge on another man named Fortunato after he insults him. The story follows Montresors deceptive route to get Fortunato intoxicated and ultimately chained and left for dead in the catacombs. I believe the story was told effectively because Poes use of literary elements such as repetition, imagery and overall tone create for a very maniacal and dark story that is very indicative of its content.
