SLANT Spelling List Week 15

Week of April 28th Stage 2 Unit 5 Focus on syllable division, consonant blends, sticky sounds and suffixes Vowels: a (apple), i (igloo), o (octopus), u (umbrella), e (echo) Consonants: b, c, d, f, g (goat), h, j (jump), k, l, m, n, p, q, r, s, t, v, w, y, z Digraphs: sh, th, ch, wh Spelling Concept: suffix, sticky sound (-ing): -ing is a sticky stound when part of the base word (sing) a sticky sound is a combination of letters that have to stick together, they act as a unit: -ing is a suffix when it added to the end of a base word (standing) Students will be writing sentences with words that follow our previous spelling rules and patterns for the test following the above word structure. This will give students practice with encoding (spelling). Each SLANT lesson includes a dictation-spelling portion using the word structure provided above. This will reinforce their decoding instruction for the SLANT reading program. We are working to apply spelling rules rather than memorize words. Examples of possible spelling word structures are below:

1. passing 2. telling 3. spelling 4. singing 5. trusting 6. expecting 7. disrupting 8. gushing 9. faxing 10. drilling
