Rich Culminating Assessment Task

Student Handout for the Recipe and Craft of the Life Cycle of a Plant:

Directions: 1. You will make a recipe that will help you grow a plant. This recipe will help you to describe the life cycle of that plant. First, you will write down a recipe for the things that you will need in order to grow a plant. Your list should include the following: a seed, soil, a pot, water, and sunlight. After you have listed the ingredients for your recipe, you will then write a short story about how you think your plant will grow. You could start by saying, After I plant my seed in soil and water it, I think my seed will start to sprout At the bottom of your paper that you wrote your thoughts on how your plant might grow, draw TWO pictures of what you think your plant will look like. Draw one picture bigger than the other one. You should have one big plant and one small plant. After you have finished drawing, measure both plants with your inch ruler and write, in a complete sentence, the size of each plant. For example, This plant is 5 inches tall. There are many different places where plants grow. Put your thinking caps on, and write a complete sentence telling me where you have seen a plant growing. Remember, plants are growing all around us in many different places.
