Unit Plan

Lesson one- Day one Daily topic: St. Patricks Day History Objective: The objective of this lesson is to discover interesting and knowledgeable facts on the history of St. Patricks Day. We will learn about 4 leaf clovers, leprechauns, and how St. Patricks Day became an official holiday. Procedures: 1) First activity: a. Ask the students what they know about St. Patricks Day at this point in their life. b. Play the power point on the Smart Board for the students. Talk about each slide and let them ask questions or make comments. c. After the slide show, ask a few questions from it and see if they were listening. 2) Second activity: a. Begin class by reviewing from yesterday and seeing if they can remember facts. b. Next, explain how Microsoft Publisher works by using the Smart Board. c. The students will be expected to choose 2 major topics of St. Patricks Day history and form the information into a brochure. d. The last section on the brochure will be the students chance to write about their favorite thing about the holiday. Materials: Smart Board to play power point, paper and pen to map out information for the brochure. Accommodations: Special needs: Extra time on the brochure activity and to have the chance to work on it at home with parents. Non-native: Make a separate power point in his/her language. Also have a translator. Gifted: Have more requirements for these students. Instead of 2 topics on the brochure, they can write 3-4. I can also give them a written quiz on the power point to take home and try on their own.
