Re: Work Plan and Cost Estimate to Develop a Manual on Cat Dissection: A Guide for High School Science Classes

Dear Mr. Hill:

As you requested, I am pleased to provide this work plan and cost estimate to develop a manual on Cat Dissection: A Guide for High School Science Classes. My intended audience would be a high school science student who would be dissecting in a biology or anatomy and physiology course. The following information includes the cost estimate, scope of work, and plan necessary to complete this manual.

Scope of Work I understand that my scope of work will include the following: Explaining how to prepare the cat for dissection (positioning, skinning, opening ventral body cavities) Explaining how to identify the various skeletal muscles Explaining how to identify organs and the system they belong in Illustrating how to cut the cat for the most successful dissection

I will not explain the dissecting tools and their individual uses. I will not explain how to dispose of the specimen once dissection is complete.

Work Plan I will complete two tasks as I work towards completing the Cat Dissection: A Guide for High School Science Classes manual.

Task 1: Obtaining a Several Cats That I May Dissect Myself I will order 3 cats from Carolina Biological so I may dissect them myself and become familiar with the process.

Task 2: Taking Care to Familiarize Myself with All Body Parts That Will Be in the Manual I will label all organs, muscles, etc. with pins so I may study and learn each part in the body of a cat.

Chapter Breakdown Ch.1: Preparing the Cat -I will discuss skinning the cat, tying down limps for easy access, as well as opening the body cavity. Ch.2: Skeletal Muscles -I will use pictures and diagrams to help students identify the skeletal muscles of the cat. Ch.3: Organ Systems -I will discuss the organs of each system and what they do (Respiratory, Endocrine, Digestive, Urinary/Reproductive).

Schedule The process of dissecting the cats will take about 2 hours apiece. Identifying and labeling the organs, muscles, etc. will take about 1 hours apiece. Creating illustrations on how to cut the cat will take an afternoon. Writing the steps for the manual itself, proofreading, and editing will take a week.

Cost Estimate As a student enrolled in TECM 2700, I may print four multiple page documents in color. I may also have use of the binding machine. Therefore, I will have no charges related to printing this manual. The three cats used for dissection should cost approximately $150.

Qualifications As a student enrolled in TECM 2700, I have the necessary expertise to write a technical document of this kind. I also have 4 years of experience in dissecting various organisms.
