Head loss Calculation for Pipe fittings

Problem statement: Calculate head loss for a 4 inch 900 bend and 4 inch concentric reducer for flow in the turbulent regime. You need to ensure that the flow is fully developed. For details on concentric reducer, please refer to http://www.roymech.co.uk/Related/Fluids/Fluids_Pipe.html Task 1: Geometry Building Build the geometry with enough pipe length before the pipe fitting to ensure fully developed flow. Task 2: Grid Independence study Conduct a grid independence study. Hint: This should be done by meshing the geometry with progressively increasing grid sizes. Use the sizing and inflation nodes in the details window of the mesh. The number of elements appears in the statistics node. Use five grid sizes for this study and run simulation for one Re, for example 10000. Compare the head loss and select the grid size beyond which head loss does not change appreciably. The geometry with this grid size should be used for further simulations. pressures. Hint: Head loss is the difference between inlet and outlet static

Task 3: Simulation for head loss Using the selected geometry (from grid independence study), determine the head loss for the Reynolds numbers 10000 - 100000 in increments of 10000. Task 4: Empirical calculation of head loss Calculate head loss by either the equivalent length method or the velocity head method (Refer to CHE 322 Process plant engineering lecture notes) and compare with the CFD results.
