In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Our opening sequence fits in with the vampire genre because In most vampire films the main character is played by a male character that is mainly in control. Our opening sequence also follows this same rule of having the main character(vampire) as male whilst the victims female. Sigmund Freud theory is based on this structure of having a pretty and innocent human that falls under the spell of the powerful male vampires. We choose to portray the female victim as being weak and out of control as most vampire films do. However this is not always the case for all vampire films for example the Underworld and Byzantium are examples of films that have strong female vampire characters. This is seen in our female character who is drunk after a night out. Our opening sequence also follows the same idea of having a weak female character that is in need of saving and resurging

Another example of how the opening sequence fits in with the vampire genre would be the way in which we wanted the vampires make up and costume to appear like on camera. For example we decided to research different make up and costume the vampires genre uses to help us build a profile for our characters. The film that we felt had the must influence on our decision of costume and make up would be twilight. The way the characters are dressed and the decision made about the colours of their contact lenses was helpful because we wanted our male character to like similar. We wanted to dress the male character in the same modern style as Edwards character in twilight. The film also had an influence on our decision to have red contact lenses instead of another colours

How our opening sequence challenge the vampire genre?

From my research of vampire films i found out that a huge amount of vampire films are mainly played by white actors. I decided to challenge this convention by having a black male character playing the lead role.

Our opening sequence also challenges the vampire convention by having the vampire in a church. The idea of having a vampire in a church is not seen in must vampire films therefor challenging the convention.

How our opening sequence develops the vampire genre? Our opening sequences uses conventions from past and the current media product being place on the market. This will help to establish the right type of target audience we want our opening sequence to attract. The film taxi driver was useful in helping us to make decision about the types of shots we need for our car scene were the vampire is in the car with the victim. The film uses different shot types inside and outside of the car.

Here are examples of shot types we tried to recreate in our opening sequence.
