Day 1 Lesson Plan

Objectives:
Students will recognize the important aspects of the Age of Reform and how this era has
influenced American Society. (DOK 1)(MS.8.SS. 4 a, b, c and d; 6a) ( NCSS Theme 4,5 and10 )
(CCSS 6 -8. 3)

Opening (Set)
Good morning students, today we will be reviewing Chapter 14 The Age of Reform (1820-
1860). First, we will do a BellRinger and then a power point presentation will be given. After
the power point presentation you will have the remainder of class to work on Chapter 14 Section
1 Cornell notes.

Learning Tasks (Procedures)
A. Tell the students to get out a sheet of paper and begin the BellRinger. Have the students
write a few sentences in their own words and have a short discussion over their answers.
After discussion have the students turn in their BellRinger.
B. Begin the Ch. 14 power point presentation on The Age of Reform (1820-1860).
C. Throughout the power point answer any questions that the students may have.
D. After the power point is finished, tell the students that their assignment for the remainder
of class period is taking their Cornell notes for Chapter 14 Section 1.
- Students will read the section and take notes on any bold vocabulary word or
significant individual.



Closure:
In the last few minutes of class walk around the room and make sure students have finished
taking notes for Section 1. Tell the students that you appreciate their cooperation and that they
will have a quiz over the Section 1 notes tomorrow and discuss the Section 1 power point.
