Abstract:

In the field of security, automated surveillance systems are very useful.

Surveillance system can be used to detect and track the moving objects. First phase
of the system is to detect the moving objects in the video. Second phase of the
system will track the detected object. In this project, detection of the moving object
has been done using simple background subtraction and tracking of single moving
object has been done using Kalman filter. The videos used for testing have been
taken using still cameras, which are located in indoor as well as outdoor
environment having moderate to complex environments. Detection of moving
objects and motion-based tracking are important components of many computer
vision applications, including activity recognition, traffic monitoring, and
automotive safety. The most advantage of our project is track maintenance. In any
given frame, some detections may be assigned to tracks, while other detections and
tracks may remain unassigned. The assigned tracks are updated using the
corresponding detections. The unassigned tracks are marked invisible. An
unassigned detection begins a new track. Each track keeps count of the number of
consecutive frames, where it remained unassigned. If the count exceeds a specified
threshold, the project assumes that the object left the field of view and it deletes the
track.
