This semester has been a great learning e!erience" #n the beginning of the semester$ #
%as really loo&ing for%ard to learning and reading interesting boo&s and articles" The reading
materials and boo&s that o'r class read %ere (ery interesting and ins!iring" )ot only did # enjoy
reading$ b't it also hel!ed im!ro(e my %riting s&ill" # am a%are of the fact that the more # read$
the better my %riting %o'ld become" The boo& # !artic'larly enjoyed reading %as the *Distance
Between Us by Reyna Grande" Grande+s story hel!ed me 'nderstand the fact that ho%
li(elihood in Meico is diffic'lt and challenging" # 'nderstood %hy Meican immigrants %ant to
li(e in America in ho!e of a better f't're e(en tho'gh the e!erience that they ha(e to go

disc'ss in my !a!er" # organi.ed my !a!er according to 4ohn 3%ale+s si criteria that defines the
disco'rse comm'nity thoro'ghly" Basically$ the !'r!ose of the !a!er %as to ma&e analysis of a

3econd$ # chose !ro!osal essay as my most challenging essay in this co'rse" 2ne of the
reasons %hy it %as diffic'lt %as coming '! %ith a s!ecific to!ic5iss'e that is narro% eno'gh to
sol(e" #t too& me some time to fig're o't %hat to %rite on my !a!er" My !ro!osal essay to!ic
%as *Resolving Californias Dropout Rate. #n this research !a!er$ # %as s'!!osed to find a

%hich %as the elimination of the GE, test" My arg'ment %as to eliminate the GE, !rogram
altogether in order to increase the high school grad'ation rate" # incor!orated the o!!osing !oint
of (ie%s in my !a!er to strengthen my !oint" 3'ccessf'l !art of the essay %as that # !'t a lot of
good s'!!orting !oints to my arg'ment and statistics to ma&e the !a!er strong and so'nd"
The area that is in need of f'rther attention %as the ending !art of the body !aragra!hs" #
need to 'se some transitional !hrases to ma&e the ideas r'n smoothly" There might be some
conf'sion to%ard the end of the body !aragra!hs beca'se of lac& of transitioning %ords bet%een
the !aragra!hs" # %ill definitely !ay attention to this iss'e on my net %riting assignment in the
f't're" #n s!ite of some minor mista&es$ # am satisfied %ith my !a!er+s o(erall o'tcome"
Altho'gh my %riting s&ill im!ro(ed a bit in this semester$ there are some areas %here #
still need to %or& on" #n !artic'lar$ # still ha(e some tro'ble %ith %riting an analysis essay" #
need to read more sam!le analysis essays and learn ne% %riting strategies to get better" /or my
reading !rogress$ # need to %or& on my critical thin&ing s&ill beca'se sometimes # ha(e lac& of
'nderstanding the critical !oints and iss'es" #n the f't're$ %hen # ta&e critical thin&ing class$ #
ho!e that my critical thin&ing s&ill %o'ld im!ro(e"
Thro'gh the class reading materials$ # became a%are of the fla%s of the ed'cational
system in %hich st'dents are not enco'raged to as& 1'estions and challenge the theories and
ideas being ta'ght in the classroom" # ho!e this system sho'ld change for the better beca'se it
does not !rod'ce real &no%ledge and 'nderstanding of the s'bject matter" Real ed'cational
system sho'ld allo% st'dents to share o!inions and disc'ss the s'bject more o!enly %ith the
teacher instead of !assing on information to j'st memori.e it" 6o%e(er$ # am glad that my
