You are a Minister
Christopher works as a customer support representative for a major electronics
company. He lives by himself in a small apartment, goes to church every Sabbath, and
attends prayer meeting weekly. Although he does all those things, he wants to witness to
those at his work, but doesnt feel qualified or called. What Christopher doesnt know is
that each and every one of us is called to minister to those around us. This concept of
everyone being a minister is called the priesthood of believers.
God makes it plain in Exodus 19 that those that follow Him are called to be
priests: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. The term
priest here is not referring to priests like those that served in the temple, but people who
are nonordained individuals that are specially trained in the work of furthering Gods
cause. Ellen white says, All are not called upon to enter the ministry, but nevertheless,
they are to minister Ministry means not only the study of books and preaching. It
means service. Service is to be offered to both believers and non-believers, encouraging,
exhorting, rebuking, and enlightening. Revelation also speaks of believers as priests. and
has made us kings and priests to His God and Father.
Once this truth is shared with Christopher, he will realize that he is called and
qualified to witness to all those around him, and can fulfill Gods purpose for his life.
