Software Specification Review (SSR)

The following material was extracted from Section 30 of Mil. Std. 1521 (now
withdrawn) to provide additional definitions for the format and content of the
Software Specification eview (SS).
30. Software Specification eview (SS)
30.1 !eneral
The Software Specification eview shall "e a formal review of a #S#$%s
re&'irements as specified in the Software e&'irements Specification and the
$nterface e&'irements Specification(s). (ormall)* it shall "e held after
S)stem +esign eview "'t prior to the start of #S#$ preliminar) design. ,
collective SS for a gro'p of config'ration items* treating each config'ration

preliminar) #S#$ design ") demonstrating to the contracting agenc) the

30.2 $tems to "e reviewed.
The contractor shall present the following items for review ") the contracting
agenc).
a. /'nctional overview of the #S#$* incl'ding inp'ts* processing* and
o'tp'ts of each f'nction.
". -verall #S#$ performance re&'irements* incl'ding exec'tion time*
storage re&'irements* and similar constraints.
c. #ontrol flow and data flow "etween each of the software f'nctions
that comprise the #S#$.
d. ,ll interface re&'irements "etween the #S#$ and all other
config'ration items "oth internal and external to the s)stem.
e. 0'alification re&'irements that identif) applica"le levels and
methods of testing for the software re&'irements that comprise the
#S#$.
g. 0'alit) factor re&'irements1 i.e.* elia"ilit)* 2fficienc)* $ntegrit)*
3sa"ilit)* Maintaina"ilit)* Testa"ilit) and $nteropera"ilit).
h. Mission re&'irements of the s)stem and its associated operational
and s'pport environments.
