Procedures

Warm-up: Major Scales- Bb in half notes, Eb articulated eighths legato, Ab on given
rhythm, F in half notes in round. Verbal reminders of good posture, proper embouchure,
air support and listening skills.

Let Evening Come: Begin at measure 20. Focus on correct notes, slide positions, and
vertical alignment. Isolate when necessary. See modification.

Assessment

Actively listen for intonation,
balance and blend issues that
can be taken care of here.
Look around the room to
make sure that each student
is sitting with good posture
and taking a good breath.

Actively listen for correct
rhythm, notes and phrasing.

Modifications: One student in this group has an IEP. Throughout this lesson I will be checking his slide positions and helping him to
write slide positions into his music. Allowing each student an opportunity to play a part on his or her own will help me to hear this
student individually to ensure that he is grasping the part. Allow gifted students to play with him so that he can really hear what he
should be playing.

Reflexive Statement:

I have included this lesson plan to show my ability to teach diverse students. This trombone section is an
excellent example of a diverse group of students. There are two gifted and talented students, two average
students, and one student with an IEP. I have adjusted my lesson plan to ensure that the student with the
IEP receives the additional help needed for him to succeed. The gifted students are also challenged in a
different way by playing as an example and coming alongside the student with an IEP.
