FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

MARIST COLLEGE ENHANCES STUDENT EXPERIENCES
THROUGH NEW PROGRAM

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - New opportunities for interaction, enhanced
student services, and program connections will broaden the college
experience for students at Marist College beginning this fall semester,
thanks to a new initiative announced today by College President Dennis J.
Murray, who is committed to forging and strengthening relationships with
the surrounding community. This initiative, rising out of the college's
2011-2016 Strategic Plan, will seek to better integrate adult learners with
graduate students, and enable students to provide feedback on how to create
stronger ties between students in related programs or degrees.

MARIST COLLEGE ENHANCES STUDENT EXPERIENCES - 2

Adult learners and graduate students, along with professors, will be
invited to join committees within a concentration area, such as
Communications, and asked for their input on how to better integrate adult
degree completion programs, which are usually all undergraduate students,
and graduate programs. This could include mentoring, group projects or
peer consultations. Both groups will benefit, as adult learners develop a
better understanding of what is needed for graduate degree study, and as
graduate students have an opportunity to broaden their understanding of the
topic.
As many adult learners are completing degree programs while
employed by local businesses, businesses and other organizations will be
encouraged to participate by encouraging employees to consider further
study, perhaps with financial assistance or recognition programs. Such
support and encouragement of additional learning will help improve
employee retention along with other benefits.
