It is with great pleasure that I recommend Vergel Marinas to your university. He joined Assemblymember Rob Bontas district office as a part of our Summer 2013 Legislative Internship Program and though a high school senior, demonstrated a strong commitment to public service through his hard work and abilities. I am confident Vergel will bring a distinct perspective and set of skills to succeed academically and contribute greatly to your college community.
During his internship, Vergel showed a great deal of prowess and dedication characteristics that will benefit your university. Though he began his internship with little work experience, he was determined to work to the best of his ability, ask questions to help him accomplish tasks successfully, and learn as much as he could by seeking more responsibility. Vergels strong work ethic, desire to learn, and strive for excellence is something every college should desire in their students.
These qualities coupled with strong communication and leadership skills allowed Vergel to excel in our office. He drafted official correspondence resolving constituent cases, organizing and publicizing community events, and providing information on legislation. Specifically, Vergel helped homeowners avoid foreclosure through an education effort to housing organizations and seniors avoid scams through our Senior Scam Stopper Seminar. He also helped put together an Assembly Resolution for the Consul General of the Philippines and manage the office during an offsite event. Most notably, Vergel consistently and happily took advantage of leadership opportunities offered to our interns.
Through his leadership abilities, Vergel learned to represent our office with confidence and ease. Within a short amount of time, he possessed a working knowledge of Assemblymember Bontas work and priorities as well as key functions of the district office, which allowed him to help manage the office, train new summer interns, and represent the office at numerous community events. Vergel did an excellent job in each instance, giving us confidence in his abilities and passion to serve our community. After his internship, he continued to take initiative by assisting us with community events in the fall. This type of leadership is necessary to succeed in college and beyond, and Vergel possesses this leadership.

He is a confident, thoughtful, and expressive person as well as an effective communicator, which have led to great debates on the best Beatles songs and political perspectives. As a small office, we welcomed Vergels perspectives and social contributions.
