In my opinion this is consider a big accomplishment, because I havent really received a
lot of awards throughout my life. I was chosen for member of the month for my club HYLC
(Hispanic Youth Leadership Council). HYLC is a club open to all high school students. The
club is design to meet concerns and needs of Hispanic students. There are other HYLC chapters
in Modesto and the surrounding communities that are all sponsored by the Hispanic Leadership
Council (HLC) of Stanislaus County, a service club made up business and professional people of
various ethnicity, and registered with the Boy Scouts of America as an Explorer program.
The member of the month is usually chosen by the advisor and the President to see who
has help the group grow and exceed. This discussion is usually kept a secret from all the other
members that are in the club so I had no idea what was going on. We often go to Cluster
Meeting in which where all the other HYLC clubs from other schools meet together to discuss
the clubs activities. Throughout that meeting then had an announcement in which the advisor got
up for each school and gave an award to the most active member of the club. There are plenty of
active members in our club so I had no idea I was going to be selected. Once I heard my name it
was truly an honor being chosen. In which this club meant a lot to me because when I first
started I didnt most of the people in the club, but I know I mostly know everyone. The award
meant a lot, because before this club I hardly didnt do any extracurricular school activities.

Going from a shy kid who didnt like to do anything, to the most active member is a pretty big
milestone in my life.
