Calcium Nitrate Experiment:

Balanced equation:
o Pb(NO

)
2
+ Ca Ca(NO

)
2
+ Pb
Materials:
1. Weighing bottle or small beaker
2. Evaporating basin
3. Gauze
4. Bunsen burner
5. Tripod
6. 250 cm^3 beaker (250 milliliters)
7. 25 cm^3 measuring cylinder (25 milliliters)
8. Tub or bath with hot water
9. Filter Funnel and filter paper
10. Thermometer (Celsius)
11. Watch glass
12. Sample bottle
13. Stirring rod
14. Spatula

Procedure:
1. Measure out around 5 grams of pure Calcium
2. Measure out about 56 grams of Lead Nitrate and add 20 mL gram of water in a
beaker
3. Once the Lead Nitrate is mixed into the water (there are no clumps) wait for it to
settle
4. Once settled move the beaker to a safe spot and add the Calcium
5. Add the Calcium to the Lead Nitrate that is mixed with water
6. Allow the Calcium to react with the Lead Nitrate solution
7. It will become hot so dont touch!
8. Wait until the reaction/bubbling has slowed/stopped before measuring it
9. Once cooled filter out the reactant
10. After filtering, measure what is left in the beaker
11. You now have Calcium Nitrate
