Antigone Essay

In the play Antigone by Sophocles a major theme is the value of intelligence and
rationality over stubbornness and inflexibility. The author shows in the play that stubbornness
leads to ruin because Antigone who is smart and rational prevails as where Creon who is
stubborn and inflexible fails. The antagonist Creon displays stubbornness and inflexibility
because whatever he says is what has to be done. Creon is inflexible because he does not let
anything go past him. Another reason why Creon is stubborn is because when a character does
not follow what he says he gets angry.
First off Creon displays stubbornness and inflexibility because whatever he says is what
has to be done. And yet you dared to overstep laws page 29. This quote is important because it
shows that Creon is stubborn. The quote shows Creon is stubborn because he is upset that
Antigone did not do as he said.
The following way that Creon displays stubbornness and in flexibility is because he does
not let anything go past him. I shall take her to a place completely devoid of human life and
hide her, living in a rocky cavern page 43. This quote is important because it shows that Creon
is inflexible. The quote displays Creons inflexibility because Antigone broke the law and Creon
is not going to let her slide so he punishes her.
The final way that Creon displays stubbornness and inflexibility is because when a
character does not follow what he says Creon gets angry. Worst of all men, at odds with your
father page 41. This quote is important because it displays Creon is stubborn. This quote shows
Creons stubbornness because when his son disobeyed him he got upset.
One of the themes in Antigone by Sophocles is that the value of intelligence and
rationality over stubbornness and inflexibility. The antagonist Creon displays stubbornness and
inflexibility because whatever he says goes, he does not let anything past him, and Creon gets
upset when a character does not follow what he tell them to do.
