Course Description:
Designed for high-intermediate to low-advanced learners, this course
focuses on development of Business English skills in listening, speaking,
and reading.
Areas of concentration include content-based material, vocabulary work,
presentations, negotiations, socializing, and developing cultural
competence on Business English situations.
Course Objectives:
Students will be able to:
Process most types of authentic aural and written material for Business
English, synthesize and use the information from a variety of selected
sources to complete speaking, listening, and reading assignments.
Command and adequate vocabulary to interpret and express most ideas
and information in Business English Settings.
Show a general understanding of cultural competence in the workplace.
Use resources to accomplish most Business English tasks.
Participate appropriately in individual and group classroom activities.
In-class Activities:
In class activities include listening to lectures, presentations,, and other
audio/visual material
Reading business articles
Role-play with a partner or group
Group discussions of business topics
Individual and group discussions

Assessment:
Students will be assessed through presentations, quizzes, homework
assignments, in-class participation, and business projects.
Students will have 4 written-quizzes during the whole semester, including
vocabulary work, content knowledge, and the information covered in
class.
Students will have a final exam, including a written test and a speaking
test.

Classroom Behavior:
Completely turn off your cell phone, laptop, and other electronic equipment when you are in class.
It is important to respect those who are speaking, whether it is the teacher or a classmate. Talking other classmates when the
teacher or someone else is presenting material is distracting and not acceptable. If you do not understand something during
the class, please raise your hand and ask the teacher or talk with her after class.
Academic Integrity: Cheating and plagiarism (using as ones own ideas, writings, materials, or images of someone else
without acknowledgement or permission) will not be tolerated and will result in a grade of 0 points.
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what the homework assignment is. You can ask a classmate or e-mail the
teacher. Being absent is not a valid excuse for not doing homework.
Grades:
The final grade will be calculated using the following percentages:
25% Quizzes
25% Presentations
25% Homework
25% In-class presentation

Grade Equivalents:
A= 90- 100%
B=80- 89%
C=70- 79%
D=60- 69%
F=59% and below
