Ryan Buckley is in the counseling center pretty upset about how her test went today.
She felt ill and
distracted during her test, and fears that she will receive a very poor grade which will affect her overall quarter grade. She is wondering if there is a chance that she can make up what she missed in tutorial today, or at least come speak to you about how to make up points so it wont result in an overall poor grade.
Thanks!

Hey Dan, I spoke with Victor Madrigals mom today and she was wondering about SOAR for him. Was he is SOAR before? Below are his last semester grades and current grades. Thanks

Victor was in SOAR last year and the intervention was unsuccessful. His grades did not improve and his SOAR teachers spent much of their time trying to control his behavior and work avoidance. At the beginning of the year it was decided that SOAR was not a proper placement for him. Dan

Last year he received an ADHD diagnosis and has been taking medications, and I have heard from teachers feedback that his behavior has improved this year. His mom mentioned she would like for him to have another chance in SOAR, could he possibly be eligible for 4 th quarter to see how it goes?

We can place him into consideration. There are a few factors that go into determining placement. First we look at how many students are returning from 3 rd quarter, then we consider new students. After we figure out how much room we have, we ask teachers for feedback. Please dont commit to her at this point. His grades are so low that I am doubtful that SOAR would help much, but I will ask his teachers what they think.
Has anybody considered Victor for guidance team?
I am in the beginning process of creating a 504 plan for Victor Madrigal for his diagnosis of ADHD, and would appreciate some teacher insight in hopes to provide the most appropriate accommodations for him. If you could let me know what behaviors you are seeing in class, and what accommodations you recommend for Victor to support his success in class. Thanks for your help,

Hes pretty great in Math Seminar 80-90% of the time (as long as hes taken meds and isnt too tired). HUGE difference when he started meds. HUGE. Even his handwriting was like a different person. He seems to feel really good about math in my class confident most of the time and willing to work hard because its exactly AT his instructional level. I do find these things help him get the most done with written classwork and participation/focus on a day-to-day basis: ~ Checking in after directions to help him get started. ~ Praise/positive feedback. ~ Preferential seating (up front or alone a little away from others or with a quieter hard-working peer hes chatty so he does better focusing on his work when its quiet around him). He does well working on computer with headphones it helps him focus when hes not distracted by peers talking/moving around a lot, etc. ~ Eye contact and name cues to be sure hes listening or to encourage participation.

Monday, December 09, 2013 8:47 AM Hi Lizzie, Can you add Danny Pham to your calendar for tomorrow? He had a rough day in debate today and could use a debrief and perhaps some tools to deal with situations where he is overwhelmed/anxious. I spoke with him about being aware of his self-talk and breathing before he got to a point of breaking down. Thanks! It sounds like he is also willing to consider an outside counselor as well I can show you the release form we will need parents to sign. I am just not sure which agency since we dont know what will happen with YES in January.
