Take control of where you want to go and who you want to
be.
Get to know the teachers/staff! Who can you ask for
help or guidance?
Attend school events! These can help connect you to
the school community and be more comfortable at school, as
well as teach you new skills to be successful in school and
life.

Remember, this can be an academic or a personal problem!
State your needs! This keeps communication open, and
helps you get what you need in a positive way. Your family
members are not mind readers.
Have conversations with your parents/guardians
about your future! Your parents/guardians can encourage
you and help you get to where you want to go.
Keep your parents/guardians involved in your
education! Your parents/guardians can be a great support
system. Studies have shown that when parents/guardians are
involved, students do better in school.
Support is there, you just need to look!
This program is designed to enhance an individuals
engagement with learning by providing consistent
support form caring and trusted adults in developing
the academic, emotional and social skills needed to
achieve academic success.

Green- Information on Parent/Family Latino Night
Pink- National PTA sheet, 100 ways for your parents to be involved in your education.
White- Speak Up! A self advocacy worksheet. Practicing how to communicate what
you are feelings, thinking, and what you want or need.
Blue- Decision Making worksheet. This can help you practice the decision making
process.
Purple- Identifying your Obstacles worksheet- Sometimes we may not know how to
get around things/problems that stand in our way to success, this worksheet can help
you identify obstacles, and ways to overcome them.
