Kindergarten Gym Lesson
Goal: For the students to be able to tell the difference in GO,
SLOW and WHOA foods and to work on their gross motor
skills.
Objective: The students will participate in exercise for the gross motor
skill to grow. The students will be able to tell the difference
in between GO, SLOW and WHOA foods.
Set: We have been learning about what is healthy and what is
not.
Advanced organizer: Today we will talk about SLOW, GO AND WHOA
FOOD.
Procedures:
1. Have the students, when they are coming in, find a
piece of tape to sit on (blue for boys and green for
girls).
2. Ask the students if they know what three kinds of food
there are.
3. Explain how we have three kinds of foods; GO foods,
SLOW foods and WHOA foods. Explain that the GO
foods are good for you like apples and carrots. That
WHOA foods are foods that are not healthy for you; but
you can eat them once in a while, like birthday cake and
candy. And SLOW foods are foods in-between GO and
WHOA foods, foods that are good to eat in small
quantities like cheese or bagels.
4. Have the students give examples of each of the three
kinds of food.
5. Have the students stand up.
6. Ask a student for an exercises and a food to spell, and
as you do the exercise spell out the food that the student
named. EX: jumping jacks and carrot. Every time they
jump have them spell c-a-r-r-o-t.
7. Repeat step six about five different times with five
different students and exercises.
8. Have the students go to the end of the gym.
