Figurative Language

Personification: An object or animal that takes on or does something that only


a human can do.
EXAMPLES: The brown grass was begging for water. Finding Nemo.

Alliteration: A series of words that have the same first consonant sound.
EXAMPLE: Peter Piper Picked a Peck of Pickled Peppers.

Hyperbole: A figure of speech that is an exaggeration
EXAMPLE: I nearly died laughing

Onomatopoeia: Using words that imitate a sound
EXAMPLE: Buzz

Metaphor: A comparison of two unlike things.
EXAMPLES: This place is a zoo. I wish you werent always a chicken.

Simile: Comparing two unlike things with using the words Like or As
EXAMPLE: Her hair was like silk
