After tragically losing her only brother,

Brian, to suicide, Alison Malmon

was driven to combat the stigma
and lack of understanding
surrounding mental health
that she felt contributed to
his death. Alison developed
a student organization to
promote mental health
awareness on her college
campus. In 2003, after
graduating, she founded
the national nonproft Active
Minds, Inc. Today Active
Minds supports more than
450 student-led chapters
at colleges and universities
nationwide.
