Grade Level: First Grade
Subject: English/reading
Curriculum goal:
Being able to have a student recognize required sight words among other words on a page.
Learning objectives:
Know and apply grade-level phonics and word
analysis skills in decoding words.
a. Know the spelling-sound correspondences for
common consonant digraphs.
b. Decode regularly spelled one-syllable words.
c. Know final -e and common vowel team
conventions for representing long vowel
sounds.
d. Use knowledge that every syllable must have
a vowel sound to determine the number of
syllables in a printed word.
e. Decode two-syllable words following basic
patterns by breaking the words into syllables.
f. Read words with inflectional endings.
g. Recognize and read grade-appropriate
irregularly spelled words.
Equipment needed:
Computer for each student if possible and if that is not possible then split them up into
groups to work on the project.
Lesson Summary:
Open up the file and look for the list of words that are on the document which are all
the sight words that they are required to learn throughout the year and have them learn to
recognize those words among other words. Teach them how to highlight the words so that as a
teacher you can tell that they are recognizing the words.
Integration Technology:
this is being integrated because they are learning some basics of technology and also working
on reading at the same time.
