Instruction Sheet for Linux

Spoken Tutorials in Linux OS

1 The procedure to practise
1. You have been given a set of Spoken tuto-
rials and les.
2. You will typically do one tutorial at a time.
3. You may listen to a Spoken tutorial and
reproduce all the commands shown in the
video.
4. If you nd it dicult to do the above, you
may consider listening to whole tutorial
once and then practise during the second
hearing.
2 Components: Ubuntu and
Linux
1. Right-click on the le named index.html,
and choose Open with Firefox to open
this le in the Firefox web browser.
2. Read the instructions given.
3. You will see two components in the left
hand-side panel Ubuntu and Linux.
4. Please click on the component Ubuntu.
5. In this component , there are three tutori-
als.
6. These three tutorials are Ubuntu Desktop,
Synaptic Package Manager and Ubuntu
Software Centre.
3 First tutorial: Ubuntu Desk-
top
1. Locate the topic Ubuntu Desktop.
2. Click on it.
3. You will see the video in the centre.
4. Click on the play button on the player to
play the tutorial.
5. To view the tutorial in a bigger player,
right-click on the video and choose View
Video option.
6. Adjust the size of the player in such a way
that you are able to practice in parallel.
7. Follow the tutorial and reproduce all the
activities as shown in the tutorial.
3.1 Instructions for Practise
(a) Create a directory on Desktop with
your Name-RollNo-Linux
(Eg.Sonia-04-Linux).
(b) Give a unique name to the les you
save so as to recognize it next time
(Eg.Practice-01-linux).
(c) Remember to save all your work in
your directory.
(d) This will ensure that your les dont
get over-written by someone else.
(e) Remember to save your work from
time to time instead of saving it at
the end of the task.
3.2 Instructions for Assignments
(a) Attempt all the given assignments.
(b) Save your work by creating a folder
called Linux-Assignment in your
main folder.
8. After you are done with this tutorial,
you can move on to the next topic,
Synaptic Package Manager in the com-
ponent Ubuntu.
4 Second tutorial: Synaptic
Package Manager
1. Locate the topic Synaptic Package
Manager.
2. Click on it.
3. Adjust the size of the player as you did
before, so that you are able to practise in
parallel.
4. Follow the tutorial and reproduce all the
activities as shown in the tutorial.
5. Try to install some useful software
like LibreOffice Suite using Synaptic
Package Manager.
6. After you are done with this tutorial,
you can move on to the next topic,
Ubuntu Software Centre in the compo-
nent Ubuntu.
5 Third tutorial: Ubuntu Soft-
ware Centre
1. Locate the topic Ubuntu Software
Centre.
2. Follow the steps 2 to 4 as instructed in the
previous section.
3. Try to install some useful software
like Audacity using Ubuntu Software
Centre.
4. After you are done with this tutorial, you
can move on to the next component Linux.
6 Similarly, remember to follow
these simple steps for all the
tutorials
1. Go to the next topic/component in the left-
hand-side panel.
2. Practise in parallel as you watch the video.
3. Reproduce all the steps shown in the tuto-
rial.
4. Attempt all the assignments and save them
in your directory.
