README (Windows)

The following are the recommended minimum system requirements:


* Pentium II
* Windows 98SE or higher
* 128 MB RAM
* 64 MB available hard-drive space
* 8x CD-ROM drive
* Mouse
* Monitor with thousands of colors and 800x600 screen
* 8-bit sound card
You can run the Touchstone CD-ROM program in two ways:
1. You can INSTALL THE PROGRAM on your computer. This is the method we recommend
. After you install it, you don't need to put the disc into your CD-ROM drive to
use the program. Also, if you install the program, you can add new expressions,
notes, and examples to "My vocabulary notebook."
2. You can RUN THE PROGRAM OFF THE DISC. With this method, however, you need to
put the disc into your CD-ROM drive each time you use the program. Also, you can
't add new expressions, notes, or examples to "My vocabulary notebook."
To INSTALL the program on a PC:
1. Put the disc into the CD-ROM drive.
2a. A dialogue box asks "What do you want Windows to do?" Choose "Open folder to
view files," and click on "OK." In the new window, click on "Setup.exe" or "Set
up." Then click on "OK."
2b. Or, if there is no dialogue box, choose "Run" from the Start menu. Look for
the letter of the CD-ROM drive and the file "Setup.exe" or "Setup." Then click o
n "OK."
3. Follow the instructions. In the third dialogue box, choose the "Full Install"
setup.
4. When you use the program again, click on the "Touchstone1" program icon. You
can find the icon on your desktop or in the "Touchstone 1" folder in your progra
m menu.
To run the program OFF THE DISC on a PC:
1. Each time you use the program, put the disc into your CD-ROM drive.
2a. A dialogue box asks "What do you want Windows to do?" Choose "Open folder to
view files," and then click on "OK." In the new window, click on "Touchstone1.e
xe" or "Touchstone1." Then click on "OK."
2b. Or, if there is no dialogue box, choose "Run" from the Start menu. Look for
the letter of the CD-ROM drive and the file "Touchstone1.exe" or "Touchstone1."
Then click on "OK."
This CD-ROM also works on Macintosh computers. The recommended minimum system re
quirements for Macintosh computers are:
* PowerMac
* System 8.6 or 9.x or higher
* 128 MB RAM
* 64 MB available hard-drive space
* 8x CD-ROM drive
* Mouse
* Monitor with thousands of colors and 800x600 screen
This CD also has an Audio CD portion. You can play it like a music CD and listen
to the two parts of the conversation from the Conversation Strategy section.
To play the Audio CD portion on a PC, open your computer's audio player program
and choose the CD drive.

and does not acquire any rights, express or implied, other than those expressed

3. Liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, Cambridge University Press is not lia
ble for direct damages or loss of any kind resulting from the use of this produc
t or from errors or faults contained in it, and in every case, Cambridge Univers
ity Press's liability shall be limited to the amount actually paid by the custom
er for the product.
