mrs rffner for a bit before heading to hampton . he worked for her she showed him
many things.
started heaing for hampton faced many difficlties on the way there. when train stopped
at a hotel the ppl there refsed o let him in. he reali"ed for the first ime the color of his
skin mattered. when he reached hampton he had no money. he was hngy tired bt
never discoraged. slept on a sidewalk. helped nloading a ship for a captain the
