Purpose
• Do falling objects of different masses fall at different rates?
Hypothesis
• We think that the falling masses will have
a constant velocity because all masses
are pulled downward at a constant
acceleration of -9.8m/s²
Procedure
Accumulate a device to hole the ticker timer in which it is
almost 2 meters above the ground. Placed on the ground
should be a bucket (preferably filled with sand) to catch
the masses when dropped. Attach a strand of ticker tape
(slightly longer than 2 meters) to the mass to be
dropped. Thread the other of the ticker tape through the
ticker timer (which should be set to 40Hz.) Drop the
mass. Record the dropped mass to match its ticker tape.
Repeat steps with each mass. Specify and measure 0.1
sec intervals (which is every 4 dots) on each ticker tape.
Measure from the origin to the end of each interval for
each ticker tape. Measurements are to be in centimeters.
Formulate a data table that comprises of time, position
from origin, change in position, change in time, and
velocity.
Results
• After calculating the results we were
correct. Each object fell at the exact same
rate because of gravity. So our hypothesis
was correct ass masses do fall at the
exact same rate.
